Which problems should we focus on?

Stan Hupfeld • DECEMBER 9, 2014

Stan Hupfeld, formerly of INTEGRIS Health, shares what he sees are the main challenges and opportunities in health reform. In Hupfeld's view, there is already enough money in the system to care for the uninsured without starting a new entitlement. However, he argues that healthcare cannot be fully market-driven due to the imbalance of information between patients and their doctors. According to Hupfeld, the hope for effective health reform has been undermined by figures on the political left and right who "give no intellectual depth to any complex problem." One solution he proposes is to modify our tax system to make insurance companies not-for-profits.
